Combat Obscura is a documentary shot on the ground in Afghanistan at the height of the war. In this episode I speak with Miles Lagoze, the former Marine Corps combat cameraman who created the film. We discuss why he joined the Marines, how he became a combat cameraman and why he made the film, before talking about why he chose a pure montage of clips from the war, rather than a more conventional narrative documentary format. We round off looking at documents I obtained from the Marine Corps about Combat Obscura, and how they weren’t happy with the film or with Miles.
