Iron Man launched the world’s biggest film franchise, as well as one of the most effective vehicles for military propaganda. On this episode, good friend and US Army veteran Henri from Fortress on a Hill joins me to discuss the movie, it’s production history and evolution from an anti-war film to an advert for the Air Force. We also talk about the origins of the Iron Man/Tony Stark character, my forthcoming book on superhero movies, and how Iron Man promoted liberal interventionism at the start of the Obama administration. This lengthy conversation also includes sidetracks into the superhero genre, mental illness in the military, and the DOD’s callousness towards their own people, let alone everyone else.
