I recently joined Henri of Fortress on a Hill to complete our discussion on Oliver Stone’s Vietnam war trilogy, this time looking at Heaven and Earth. We review the film, but also get deep into the underlying philosophical ideas and conflicts in the movie, which are more pronounced in Heaven and Earth than in Platoon or Born on the Fourth of July. In particular we explore some of the Buddhist philosophy that permeates the story, including notions of moral exchange and karma. This is a lengthy, sometimes rambling conversation but I had a great time talking to Henri about this profoundly emotional and ambitious movie.

Henri and I are now back to recording fairly regularly so with some luck we’ll both be appearing on each other’s shows quite a lot in the coming months.
