We talked about the Pentagon’s habit of civilianization – where controversial elements of the script are changed so they don’t apply or connect to the military – and why the DOD are so paranoid about how they are portrayed in cinema. This conversation highlights the potential, in the social media/internet meme culture, for subversive elements of films to have a widespread impact on popular dialogue about war, militarism and politics in general, and the lack of accountability inherent in the entertainment liaison office system.
