Roger alerted me to a recent article in Jacobin Mag about how Spider-Man’s working class origins have been thoroughly subverted by the Disney/MCU version, wherein Spider-Man (Spider-Boy, really) is the apprentice to military-industrial billionaire Tony Stark.  Much as the original Iron Man scripts were completely inverted to turn Stark from an opponent of the military-industrial complex to a proponent of using high technologies to murder Afghan militants, Spider-Man has gone from hero standing up for the working class to a representative of the same elite the Washington Post says should pick the next president.

The article briefly references the military-Marvel relationship and links to this site, but that’s not the main reason to read it – it’s genuinely a fine piece that illustrates how at the top level, Hollywood is all about the ruling class.
