Luke and Matt of Matt and Luke’s Sci-Fi Sanctuary invited my on their podcast recently to talk about the Paul Verhoeven/Ed Neumeier classic Starship Troopers. In this fairly light-hearted discussion we talked about our opinions of the film, our experiences of watching it for the first time, why it was a critical and commercial flop that has since undergone a redemption, and the anti-fascist subtext that so many viewers missed the first go round. We also talked a bit about the sci-fi genre more broadly and where it has gone over the last decade, and where it might be headed next.
I will likely be returning to the Sci-Fi Sanctuary in the coming months, as I really enjoyed this conversation with Matt and Luke, so stay tuned to their website and/or to Spy Culture for more talks like this one.
