12 Angry Men is a Hollywood classic about a jury trying to decide whether a young man is guilty of murder.  In this month’s subscriber-only podcast I review the movie and examine its discussion of the problems and virtues of the jury system.  We look at class, race, age and gender prejudice and the way they influence verdicts in criminal trials.  In the second half of the podcast we look at the problem with 12 Angry Men – that despite its criticisms of the jury system, it is ultimately an endorsement of that system.  We round off with some ideas about to modernise and subvert 12 Angry Men for the contemporary entertainment and political landscape.
