The state make a claim to a monopoly on the righteous use of violence, but throughout history people have challenged that claim. In this month’s subscribercast we take a meandering journey through the topic of revolutionary violence, stopping off at the American and Bolshevik revolutions, the Decade of Regicide, recent violence at major football matches and other events. I describe my own philosophy for assessing the morality of different kinds of revolutionary violence, as well as one of my all-time favourite news interviews.
